Dear Perfect, I’m breaking up with you

Dear Perfect, I’m breaking up with you

Dear Perfect,

I know we’ve been together for awhile, but the truth is, I’ve been unfaithful to you for quite some time.

It’s not that I didn’t want things to work out between us; I really did! At the beginning of our relationship, I truly thought we’d be together forever. I assumed our connection would grow stronger over time and that we’d grow old bringing out the best in each other.

But that just isn’t happening.

Please don’t take it personally (not that you would; you’re Perfect after all), but you’re just not a good fit for me. You bring out the worst in me, and the truth is, I’m not a good fit for you either. How could I be when all I ever do is make you look bad?

I met Progress a few years ago, and I promise, I wasn’t looking for anything to develop! I tried so hard to ignore the sparks between us. But the more I tried, the stronger they grew. Progress accepts me for who I am. Instead of stepping aside when I stumble through the tough times, Progress holds my hand and keeps me from ever stumbling to begin with. I love that.

I won’t deny that on the outside my life would look a whole lot better if you and I were together. Our Christmas cards would be magical. Our children would be the envy of all. My family and friends would be jealous. But in the long run, this relationship just isn’t sustainable.

I’m dying on the inside with you.

I’ll always remember you and the times we shared. (We had our moments, right?!) But I’m breaking up with you because I’m in love with someone else.

I’m in love with Progress.

EmilySig

P.S. Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll find someone else in no time.

Have you ever had to break up with Perfect?

Tried to be a perfect “Miss Perfect”….perfectionism….I absorbed it, took it in like a very best friend. I pampered it, petted it & it literally attacked me. UHG! Then there was that glorious day when I HAD to say, “I AM NOT Miss Perfect anything or anyone. NO! Not perfect momma, wife, daughter, niece, grand daughter or friend!”
There IS ONLY One perfect one & I’m not it!”…………..

Thank You Lord for showing me this. I tried with all my might, heart & soul but I failed & IT’S OKAY!

    LOL! Jump up & down, celebrate & you’re right….
I fell in LOVE with “”””Mrs. Progress””””. Wise, eyes open, ears hearing, spirit sensing……….ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Peaceful, sweet relief, & I AM free to be the me HE created.
    LOVE,
    “In Progress”

I too have had a relationship with Perfect. It was the worst relationship ever! In fact, I would almost call that relationship “abusive.” By God’s grace, I have embraced Progress and broken up with Perfect too. I now call myself a “recovering perfectionist.” It’s still a process getting over Perfect, but Progress is so much better for me! I am so much happier with Progress!
